Legacy bur oak “Hobson S’more” beer released

HOBSON OAK PARTY TIME!

A beer over 250 years in the making will be released at 5pm on Friday, December 6th at Solemn Oath Brewery, 1661 Quincy #179, Naperville. “Hobson S’more” pays tribute to the wild and gnarled bur oak that once stood along Hobson Road in DuPage County.

Solemn Oath, Miskatonic, and Hop Butcher breweries came together to create an imperial milk stout with cocoa nibs, marshmallow, graham cracker, and wood from the famed Hobson Oak. Half will be released fresh on December 6th with the other half resting in bourbon barrels for 2020.

“We’re thrilled to once again join our friends at Hop Butcher, Miskatonic, and the Naperville Parks Foundation to honor the iconic Hobson Oak,” said John Barley, CEO of Naperville’s Solemn Oath Brewery. “Our community is everything to us and to be able to keep such a huge piece of it alive through beer has been a privilege.”

The Naperville Parks Foundation spearheaded efforts for the tree to carefully be taken down in November 2016. The Hobson Oak lives on through the generosity of artists who crafted bowls, tables, coffee tables, end tables, vases, cutting boards, wine stoppers, chairs, ornaments, picture frames, notecards, clocks, shelves, boxes, guitars, fairy furniture, and beer. Thousands of dollars have been raised through partnerships with artists and other not-for-profit agencies.

On December 6 at Solemn Oath Brewery, there will be a live auction of a Hobson Oak guitar and cabinet. Hand-crafted Hobson Oak items will also be offered in a Silent Auction. T-shirts, notecards, and wood will also be available. Hobson Oak Seedlings will be sold and reserved for an Arbor Day 2020 pick up. Please join us in raising a glass and celebrating the strength of our community.

The Naperville Parks Foundation was established in 2011 to support opportunities that encourage indoor and outdoor recreational activities.  In addition, the Foundation provides the Naperville Park District with funds for families in our community who could not sign up for programs without a little financial assistance.
